Service control
Service Control is a desktop application that lets you monitor and control the NETx Core Server and its related services and tools from a single window. It shows at a glance whether each component is running and lets you start, stop, and open them.
Overview
When you open Service Control, the main window lists all monitored applications together with their current status and the actions available for each one. The window updates continuously, so the displayed status always reflects the live state of the system.
The main window
Header
The top of the window shows general information about the monitored server:
Product name – for example NETx BMS Platform or NETx MP Server, depending on the installed server type.
Core Server version – the version number of the installed server, shown next to the product name.
Workspace – the currently active workspace of the server.
Application list
The application list is organized into three columns:

Status indicators
The colored indicator next to each component shows its state at a glance:
Indicator | Meaning |
|---|---|
GREEN | The component is running normally and ready to use. |
YELLOW | The component is starting up, or its state cannot be determined yet. |
RED | The component is stopped or cannot be reached. |
Depending on the component, the status text next to the indicator shows one of the following values: Running, Starting, Stopping, Stopped, Ready, Not ready, or Unknown.
Monitored applications
The following components are shown in the application list. The Web Manager and Web Visualization rows appear only on a BMS Platform server.

Starting and stopping the Core Server
The Action button in the Core Server row lets you control the server:
When the server is stopped, the button shows Start. Click it to start the Core Server.
When the server is running, the button shows Stop. Click it to stop the Core Server.
While the server is starting or stopping, the button is temporarily disabled and the status indicator reflects the transition (for example, yellow while starting). The button becomes available again once the operation has finished.
Opening the management tools
Use the Open buttons to launch the corresponding tool:
Core Studio starts the local Core Studio application.
App Manager, Web Manager, and Web Visualization open in your default web browser.
The web-based tools (App Manager, Web Manager, Web Visualization) can only be opened while the Core Server is running.
System tray icon and notifications
Service Control also places an icon in the Windows system tray (notification area). The color of the tray icon summarizes the overall system state:
Tray icon | Meaning |
|---|---|
GREEN | All monitored components are running. |
YELLOW | Some components are running and some are not. |
RED | No components are running. |
Service Control can also show pop-up notifications from the tray icon, for example a warning when a conflicting server instance is detected.
Special situations
Conflicting server instance (R2) warning
If Service Control detects that an older R2 instance of the BMS Platform or MP Server is running at the same time, it shows an orange warning banner. Running an R2 and an R3 server simultaneously can lead to unpredictable behavior and errors, so the conflicting instance should be stopped.
Automatic start
Service Control is registered to start automatically after you log on to Windows, so the monitoring is available without having to open it manually. Only one instance of Service Control runs at a time; starting it again simply brings the existing window to the foreground.
