Tutorial: Import a KNX project from the ETS

The NETx BMS App Secure allows a quick and easy transfer of a KNX project to the NETxAutomation BMS Platform or the Multi Protocol Server.

ETS export with NETx BMS App Secure

  1. In the ETS, open your KNX project and start NETx BMS App Secure from the Apps menu:

  2. Select the Server type NETx BMS Platform and the options you wish to export. In most cases selecting all options gives you best results. Click the Export... button to start the export.

  3. Once the NETx BMS App Secure has completed its work it presents a status message:

Detail information:

  1. If an IP tunneling address is not parameterized, the app will ask for it during export.

  2. If a group address is reachable through different KNX lines, the NETx BMS App Secure chooses the line with the lowest line address.

  3. If a line is not uniquely accessible through a KNXnet/IP device (i.e. there is none or more than one), the NETx BMS App Secure prompts to choose a device manually.

Import into NETx Core Studio

After the export we now do the import process in the NETx Core Studio.

  1. Select the menu item KNX / Import NETx ETS App file...:

  2. Select the export file and choose options:

    • Replace definition:

      • all existing KNX definitions will be replaced by the import

    • Update definition:

      • all definitions from the export file are used

      • definitions (identified by gateway and group address) existing in the Core Server workspace are updated

      • definitions which are present in the telegram definition as comments will be ignored

    • Import KNX data:

      • KNX gateway definitions, telegram definitions, ETS object definition, and group alias definitions are imported

    • Import LaMPS data:

      • configuration of supported DALI/KNX-gateways for use in the LaMPS module is imported (only available on BMS Platform)

  3. After importing the ETS data and restarting the Core Server we see all the KNX project data in the XIO\KNX branch of the item tree.
